The History

Bob Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. His birthday is October 29th.

Bob Ross saw a painting show on television, called The Magic of Oil Painting.

Bob Ross gets his hair permed to save money on haircuts.

Bill Alexander made a TV commercial with Bob Ross to promote his painting classes.

 The Joy of Painting's first season was aired but the audience was small and the quality was bad. The partnership with WNVC dissolved. Bob Ross became a pop culture icon, in which he appeared as an HBO filler to run between movies.

The show moved to WIPB in Muncie, Indiana, and the show had a national audience.

The Joy of Painting began using guest appearances from other painters, who paint alongside Bob.

The first hardcover book The Best of the Joy of Painting was released, and he hit the talk show circuit, starting with his appearance on The Joan Rivers Show.

The Joy of Painting's 300th episode aired in the United States, and then in Canada. Soon, The Joy of Painting began broadcasting and dubbed in different languages around the world.

The Joy of Painting began syndicating to PBS stations across the country, under the moniker The Best of the Joy of Painting. His second hardcover book More Joy of Painting was released.

Bob Ross made TV commercials for MTV, where he paints the MTV logo made out of a landscape.

The Joy of Painting was cancelled by PBS stations across the country, and Bob Ross went back home to Florida. Bob Ross made his final talk show appearance on The Phil Donahue Show.

Bob Ross teamed up with a crew from Muncie, to produce a show called The Adventures of Elmer and Friends. But he was too ill to travel to Indiana to shoot the pilot. So the crew came along, and recorded Bob's parts from his home.

Bob Ross died from lymphoma at the age of 52.

Bob Ross appeared in a Mountain Dew commercial. He paints happy little droplets on the Mountain Dew bottle, and takes the Mountain Dew off of a landscape oil painting.
